Haiti.FM Game Reviews: Evony: Age I – [ Review = Awesome ]

After seeing these ads for months finally I got curious what is Evony? And why is she stalking me? So I signed up to play the game since its Free no problem. Little did I know how addicting a game could become after a few hours in.

Evony is a free browser-based multiplayer online game so I could play it on my macbook without having to use bootcamp to fire up Windows 7 and nothing is needed but a browser. Sweeeet >_<

The cities have a Town Hall that keeps track of all things like taxes and production of resources, cottages for your town people to live in, walls for strong defense, barracks to produce troops, workshops to make machines, and so a few more things in the game with lots to do. The way you structure each city is entirely up to you to design, with as much or as little of the available resources you can produce of course. Something I ran into is that buildings and upgrades most of the time require other buildings or upgrades to be at a certain level before they can be made. You have resource slots for sawmills, iron mines, farms and quarries to produce resources, and as you upgrade your town hall, more of these become available. Upgrading your town hall also means you can take your troops out to conquer more valleys. The key to becoming stronger and faster in battle is the research that can be done once you have an Academy. The RPG aspects of Evony is actually quite deep when you get into it, and many new things are ahead to be discovered so I can see myself playing this for a long time to come.

I found the best part to Evony is it's Alliance program. After a few days of building my prestige during my 7 day beginner's protection my inbox was flooded with Alliance invites. It took a few days but I joined Savages now a few days later drama and wars broke out and some Savage members split up to form a new alliance which I went along with so I am now a member of EVONIES2 on server 57. Maybe I will have a Haiti.FM alliance later. But the friends I made in the Alliance are very helpful with tips (good tips like always have your Beacon Tower at the same level or above the level of your Wall to get warnings) and they send you much needed resources, best of all they back you up with troops when your city is being attacked. It all adds a good bit of fun and adventure to the game. These close human interaction keeps things interesting and fun.

I found the game slow at first but things got much more interesting once I got several cities going at the same time giving me more to look after. One of the main reasons for this was the fact that each task you perform takes a certain amount of time, and with one city you could only do one task that slows things down a bit without speed-up items like Beginner Guide (which shortens the time a build takes by 15 minutes) - these items are great ways to save time, you can get them through the course of the game like quests completions or free amulet spins, or you can also buy them by clicking shop and using cents. I find it a lot easier when there's not much I can do to speed things up, I just simply take a walk away from the computer leaving the game to do its thing while I do something else and come back later. With several cities and armies to deal with, there's a lot less waiting because there is always something else to get do but Evony is a great game for busy people, I find a lot of moms playing this game. Making it easy for players to put as much or as little time into the gem as they need is a perfect balance in gameplay for busy people, anything you start off in the game will continue in real time whether you've got the game running in your web browser or not is quite helpful. Thus if you find yourself short on resources, leave it overnight and when you return, you should have a lot ready to use resources.
